GUENDOUZI ACHIEVES CHILDHOOD DREAM JOINING ARSENAL FC

French teenage midfielder Matteo Guendouzi says he wants to become part of the history of Premier League side Arsenal after signing for them on Wednesday for a fee reported to be £7 million. The 19-year-old – Arsenal's fifth signing since Unai Emery was appointed Arsene Wenger's successor in late May – joins from Ligue 2 outfit Lorient Guendouzi, who began his career in the youth system at Paris Saint Germain before moving to Lorient in 2014, told Arsenal's website for him the move is a dream come true. "Arsenal have always been the team closest to my heart and a side I've wanted to join since I was a child," said Guendouzi. "It gives me great pride – it's incredible. I hope I can do great things here. "It doesn't get any better than coming to a club like this, with so much history, like Arsenal. I'm hugely proud. "I want to become part of the club's history and to achieve great things here." Emery, who was appointed to the Gunners post after he lost his job at Paris Saint Germain, said Arsenal had fended off several other clubs in securing the signature of Guendouzi, who has been capped at three different age categories by France. "He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him," said Emery. "He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient (in all he made 26 appearances since he made his debut in 2016). "He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad." Guendouzi joins Uruguayan international midfielder Lucas Torreira, veteran Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, German goalkeeper Bernd Leno and experienced Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopouloss as new arrivals at the Gunners.

GW8 DIFFERENTIALS; ANTHONY KNOCKAERT

Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) The midfielder is owned by only 1.1 per cent of FPL managers ahead of his home encounter against West Ham United. Knockaert has one goal and three assists for Brighton & Hove Albion, totalling 27 points in the first seven Gameweeks. At home, in particular, he has been consistent. The Frenchman has produced a goal or an assist in all three of his appearances at the Amex Stadium, which includes visits from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Indeed, he has averaged six points per home match in 2018/19. Home impact His underlying statistics also back up Knockaert's growing influence on Chris Hughton's side. The 26-year-old's totals of 14 shots on goal and 11 chances created are more than any team-mate. The Hammers arrive without a clean sheet in their three away matches. They have conceded eight goals on the road, the third-worst record in the Premier League. Knockaert looks well placed to take advantage of those frailtie...

WHEN IS THE FPL GAMEWEEK 1 DEADLINE?

It's almost a ritual for Fantasy Premier League managers to spend their Saturday morning agonising over their team. Be it a late transfer or a last-minute captain swap, these vital moments before a Gameweek deadline can decide where mini-leagues are won or lost. But be warned. If you leave it until Saturday this time it will be too late. Because the 2018/19 season starts on Friday 10 August, all Gameweek 1 teams must be finalised an hour before the opening match of the season kicks off. That means managers must submit their final selections by 19:00 BST on Friday 10 August... a week from today! Don't get caught out Similarly, those waiting for the transfer window to close before starting on their FPL team are at risk. While big-name signings could yet be added to the game before 17:00 BST 9 August, managers putting off registration could pay a big price. Remember, the speed with which managers register their FPL teams can affect their chances of winning mini-leag...
